The most powerful clan around is not to be messed with it. That is simply not the way things are handled. It had become clear to Jane, though, that though the entire family had years of experience, the Cullens simply did not understand how to leave well enough alone. Carlisle had even spent enough time among the Volturi himself that he ought to know better than to behave as he had been. It was entirely too much of a danger to have a human around who knew more than she ought to about the life of the Cullens and the others like them. Of course, it was only expected that the Volturi take care of the matter.
The girl’s crimson eyes scanned the clearing she stood in. The place reeked of wolves. She simply couldn’t understand how the Cullens had lived so long in such close proximity with the werewolves. Still, she knew this was her best bet for finding a target. She was determined to find a way to get close to the newest Cullen. She knew she couldn’t hurt the girl herself, and she would stop at nothing to cause the girl as much pain as possible. If only she could find them and get this over with. The scent of the woods let her know that whichever she found, human or wolf, she was going to have to endure a bit of torture on her own end. Even the humans spent so much time with the werewolves that the scene had seeped into their very skin.
The leather of the girl’s boots was soft against her skin, and their rubber soles hardly made a sound as she treaded on the damp grass and brown leaves. She wore a dark green dress and black tights. Her clothing looked too old for her twelve year old body. But she’d been twelve for nearly four hundred years. She figured she deserved to grow up just a little. Her thoughts came to an abrupt halt as the warmth of a fresh scent met her nose, and the vampire looked around for the source of it. Of course, whatever it was wasn’t close enough to even make a sound yet. She still had a bit of waiting to do.

It wasn't uncommon for Edward to be running through the forest that was so close to the Cullen Manor. What was unusual was the fact that he wasn't with Bella. Things were just becoming to be too much. He wouldn't go far, no. He just intended to run long enough to clear his mind of the bickering that had just occurred in the cottage. This wasn't supposed to be how things were. They weren't supposed to be arguing. Yet the situation was undeniably painful for the both of them. It seemed as if they were being threatened with the loss of people they cared about; Bella's father and their daughter. He gritted his teeth as he tried to wrap his mind around the rush of the wind around him, the sounds of the forest that he probably would have missed were it not for his senses being just as tuned as his speed.
It seemed, however, that peace of mind wasn't in the cards for Edward Cullen, for a familiar scent soon entered his nostrils, as he breathed merely out of habit. It wasn't as if it would calm him down in the slightest. This wasn't some headache that came as a result of too many thoughts. In fact, it seemed like he wasn't going to hear any thoughts at the moment, until the familiar, youthful voice entered his mind. He suddenly felt anger swirl into his mind, despite the fact that provocation hadn't arrived yet. Oh, it was guaranteed to come. Volturi members didn't arrive unless they felt that there was a reason to stir up trouble.
He knew that they were simply doing their duty, but the last time the Volturi came was still fresh in Edward's mind, and the fact that they were so ready to kill his daughter was still a thorn in his side. Oh, he knew that they hadn't broken any laws...yet it couldn't be said that Alice and Jasper arrived a moment too soon with Nahuel. Trying his best to keep a calm face, he followed the sound of Jane's thoughts and her scent before stopping to see the four hundred year old child standing there, as if she were waiting for something. "What a pleasant surprise, Jane," he stated simply, almost as if he were talking about the weather instead of trying desperately to not get angry. He knew what the girl was capable of, and perhaps it wasn't the smartest move to go to her alone, but an overwhelming need to see what she was up to made him feel justified in taking that risk.

She’d hardly had to wait at all before the burning scent of an all to familair Cullen filled her nostrils. She actually might get to torture him agian finally. The idea made her eyes sparkle and she grinned. Tilting her head to the side, she fixed her eyes on the tree line. Jane knew better she had to have a good reason to actually attack him if he had broken a law or etc. But Jane wasn't exactly here on Volturi orders more on her own then anything. But she had an undelying purpose of course but she wasn't going to focus on that know especially with Edward poking ta her thoughts.
Something moved. There was her vampire. As he stepped out of the woods, her grin broadened. "Hello Edward." she said softly knowing he would hear her but warmly as if greating and old friend she hadn't seen in ages. Her voice sounded so silky he would have been a fool to trust it. But in all honesty the Cullens weren't close friends of hers at all and Edward most likely knew better then to trust her. "So nice to see you." she exclaimed in glee, clapping her small hands together. There were times when being forever twelve was a wonderful thing.
She would love to cause Bella great pain and attack Edward and take out her darling loved ones one by one but there was law to abide by and other ways to go about it. She had to look up at Edward as she took a few steps closer to him as if she really had a eed to. But she wasn't going to attack not yet at least. She was surprised to see him but was glad it was him who had found her thought she was quite curious about the wovles who roamed around here now but she would deal with that later.

Jane's desires and plans of harm were all too clear for Edward's ears. Most people would have thought him running right to her to be foolhardy, especially after hearing those thoughts. Yet there he stood, his expression calm, but his body in a defensive mode. He still wasn't entirely sure of her purpose, as she wasn't thinking of it in specifics. Simply vague terms. Unless she was just here to have them be her mental punching bags, which he doubted, it was almost as if she had no real purpose at all. All he knew was that there weren't any official orders that had led her here. Having so little to go on was incredibly frustrating, especially since all he wanted was for her to be as far away from his family as possible.
He had to hold back a snarl at the silky smooth voice she used to greet him. There was a sheer hint of an attempt at manipulation in that voice and he knew that any human would have been utterly fooled into thinking that she was a normal, happy girl. Perhaps they'd even forget the color of her eyes, which were blood red and would strike fear into the hearts of many in spite of the pretty face they belonged on. In other words, Jane could have easily fooled anyone who didn't know her ways well enough. His eyes had narrowed slightly by now, suspicion filling the golden orbs up to the brim.
"Indeed," he responded, keeping his own voice level. It wouldn't do to lose control of his own temper, after all. He still had no single clue as to what she was doing here, and he knew better than to expect her to tell him out right. He would simply have to deal with the tense atmosphere between them, as he tried his hardest to control the anger that was still growing inside of him. All he could find in her mind were thoughts of how glad she was it was him she had encountered, and a curiosity about the Quileute wolves. He almost scoffed upon hearing that. He was almost certain that Jacob held just as much of a grudge over their previous encounter as he did...there was no possible way the girl would have been alive right now if it had been him, or any of the other wolves.

was felt she needed approval from Aro with everything she did. She needed reassurance that she was worthy of the Volturi, she feared failing them. Though her loyalty was sealed with her life. She could never betray them, that is the last thing she would do. Her life was to satisfy them in every way possible. To be at their hand and foot whenever they needed her. True only few member knew she was here but they understood and were actually quite jealous they hadn't thought of it first.
Of course, she wasn’t stupid. She knew Edward was curious of her being here just his stance no matter how calm he was acting she could tell he was ready for anything an attack or anything else. A serene smile spread across her face. "Where's your darling wife Bella?" she asked curiously. "I was so looking forward to seeing how she was faring in our world now." she was curious about the girl but she really didn't care all to much. Jane had many more importantt things. Bella's welfare wasn't one of them though Bella was a concern in a different way. The Volturi very much was curious about her power and would love her on there side.
Jane shook her head knowing from the resent the Cullens had that would happen at least no willinglu...unless there was no other choice of course. Jane smirked her dimples showing through. "Enjoying my thoughts." she said playful spining around and skipping a little way away from him. "Oh that reminds me how's you precious daughter?" she asked turning back to him. This was a topic she would love to get into and know about but in due time. The half-breed interested her more then you could guess form her tone.

In spite of himself, the thoughts that the girl had about wanting to feel worthy of the Volturi allowed, for just a moment, a pang of sympathy to pulse from his heart to the rest of Edward's body. For that moment, he couldn't help but wonder what could have become of the girl she once was if it hadn't been for the Volturi. Surely she wasn't always this bitter and sadistic. Yet that couldn't be helped, Edward realized. She had been with them for four hundred years, after all, and since she was a child, no less. There was nothing else she really knew. Besides...it wasn't the fact that they enforced the law itself that angered Edward...it was the fact that they looked for any excuse to punish.
At the mention of Bella, Edward felt both pain and anger. Would there ever be a time when the Volturi stopped focusing on her? It made him more nervous than anyone could ever imagine. They had threatened to kill her far too many times for Edward's taste (then again, once was enough to set him of, naturally). He wouldn't reveal that there had been some problems between himself and his wife, of course. Jane didn't deserve to have to hear of their troubles. He didn't even truly grace her with a response to her first question. "She's faring quite well, thank you," he answered, hoping that that would be all. He wasn't the least bit comfortable with this, after all, especially not with her thoughts of how they'd love Bella on their side. It would happen over his dead body, and he meant truly dead. Ripped to pieces and burnt, and he would put up a hell of a fight to prevent that.
He only replied with a cold glare at her taunting question regarding his gifts. "Enjoyment isn't quite the right word," he muttered, unable to keep his own mouth shut, as much as he wished he could. Even with his experience with fellow immortals, to hear such thoughts from someone who was in so many ways a child was deeply disturbing. The fact that she had begun to skip around only added to that effect. And again, her questions invaded the life that was starting to fall apart. He sighed. "She's perfectly fine," he lied, unable to hide the bitterness he held toward them. No thanks to you, he mentally added. He wasn't stupid enough to say that out loud.

Jane looked at Edward a moment his expression put her off for a moment. Her brow furrowed and the serene face look angry in place of happy. Was that a glimpse of sympathy she saw pity. Something Jane did not need was pity whatever the thought that struck to even pity her for a millisecond angered her more the she could say. But she took a deep breath and let the smile take it's place back on her face. She folded her hands to her face hiding her smile as he spoke of Bella.
"Good glad to hears she well probably off with the young one I suppose." she said as sweelty as possible. She took her hands from her face she knew the innocent act all to well why she was wasting it on Edward who knew. "I do hope to see her sometime." she said quietly s if it was no big deal. But she knew in a way it was a promise she would be around for awhile. Maybe if thing went the way she planned at least not to long hopefully.
She sighed as if sounding bored he wasn't giving her anything she wanted but that was to be expected. " Aw so you one great big family wolves and all." she said a edge becoming apparent in her voice. She didn't believe it for a second or she was just jealous of the perfect life they had. "Cute I'm sure" she said coldly before a warm smile swept across her face. "Being a father to such a blessed child must be an honor." she said barely meaning it now just picking on him more then anything. Jane was in a playful mood but she would get info later and enjoy herself now. She didn't want to upset herself to where she might do something drastic.

Edward heard the nearly murderous thoughts that ran through Jane's head. It just figured that she would notice his facial expression. He should have known better than to make it so obvious. How on earth had he been able to convince Bella that he didn't love her eleven years ago if he was so obvious? He shook his head, forcing himself to stop thinking about how this girl once was or how she could have been. It was completely irrelevant. The girl was a complete sadist now, hell bent on finding an excuse to go after the Cullens. It had been that way ever since they found out about Bella, after all. Still, if Jane was going to smile and pretend she hadn't noticed, he was going to pretend to not have even thought about the tragedy that was probably her life.
So for now, he pretended to listen to her words that were filled with the false innocence that drove him mad. Perhaps that was part of the reason why he felt so fortunate to not have younger siblings that were of that age, in his human or immortal life. And even Jane knew that it was pointless to behave this way around him. Perhaps it was simply habit by now. There were probably times when there weren't that many tourists for a while...he nearly shuddered at the thought of how her act had possibly been put to use, but shoved off the thought. "Yes, that's it..." he responded, keeping calm despite the fact that he was lying, unless Nessie had returned home already and he hadn't seen her while he was running.
As for Jane's comment on wanting to see her, and her thoughts of how that it was a warning, panic started coursing through his body. For heaven's sake, what could they possibly want with her? He knew what the case was with Bella, and he was going to fight like hell to keep the Volturi's clutches off of his wife, but what of Nessie? He knew that Aro probably wouldn't find her power useful enough. No matter what the reason, he would have to protect them. Just because there were problems didn't mean that he wasn't going to keep make sure that Bella stayed. She'd never go willingly, but they had their ways, and he knew them.
"Yes, everything's going quite nicely," he stated, trying to keep the edge out of his own voice. "And you have no idea..." In spite of himself, a smile crossed his face at the thought of his Nessie. Being a father was far stranger than he could ever imagine. He wasn't sure if it was because of how quickly she grew or if it was always like this, regardless of how one's daughter returned. He knew that she hardly cared. He only said it because that was the good and honest truth. Perhaps that was half the reason why the fact that she was spending more and more time with Jacob worried him. Nothing else made sense; he no longer hated him, he knew that Jacob was, in fact, a good guy and he had been expecting this since the day Nessie was born. A fatherly instinct was the only explanation, and even then, it was utterly irrational.

Jane wasn't going to ripp Edward apart or cause him great pain no that wasn't what she was hear for no matter how much she wanted to. Well she was sure she would get her chance though but she was not going to focus on that now. It was tempting to attack him now all alone his family not anywhere near to help him...yet. A small smirk came across her face as she toyed with the idea andwent through different senerios of what she would do in her head. She looked at Edward knowing he was seeming this. Now Jane was just provoking him but that was fun in itself to her. Besides Jane would get what she wanted soon enough.
Jane wonder how protective they where of the little probably quite so. Jane was curious how big was the girl was now. She wasn't that old but from the little she knew that didn't matter. Jane coacked her head to the side. "What was her name again?" Jane asked. "I do hope to talk to her and would hate to be so rude as to not know her name." Jane knew the cullens would never trust her to talk to the girl alone. but knew they weren't going to stop her from talking to her she would be sure of it.
"Anyways ." Jane said quickly changing the subject. "I hope you don't mind but I will be hunting here on this territory but don't worry no one will ever know but if it to much of a bother I will go to Port Angelus when I get hunger." she said her tone light but her crimson eyes narrow as she waited for an answer curious if he would deny her and tell her to hunt else where. It wouldn't make a differene to her in all honesty. She really didn't even need there permission but that wasn't why she asked.
"Oh I do hope all is well will everyone in your family Aro so does miss Carlise and is curious how Alice is." Jane said passivly this was information unimportant to her just Aros wishes which she had to follow. She didn't mind at all but she was curious was is possible to over throw him but she quickly shook her head at the thoguht then looked to Edward a hiss emmitting from her. One thing she liked is she knew Aro couldn't always been in her head like Mr. Cullen here.

Despite the fact that he knew it was silly to expect an attack over something as simple as a look, but Edward knew better than to underestimate what could provoke a Volturi guard's wrath. Besides, the fact that she was fantasizing about scenarios that would cause him pain didn't help at all in his worries. It just figured...being part of such a large coven that hadn't been so tempted to kill one another, and lived so differently from the Volturi...he was sure that if he was just a random loner who was as subtle as one of his kind could be with his kills, there would have been a significantly smaller number of problems. Then again, how could he trade the family he had? That would have been more insane than many of his less intelligent mistakes. However, right now, he wasn't going to take the bait. If she wanted a fight, she was going to have to make the first move, for he wasn't going to sink that low.
He gnashed his teeth, keeping his lips closed to hide that fact, when she asked about Nessie yet again. What on earth did she want from her, honestly? "Renesmee..." he responded softly, quite reluctant to answer, but not wanting to test the girl. He knew that it would lead to trouble that was far from necessary if he kept his mouth shut. I doubt she'd want a single thing to do with you, he thought. Nessie knew what they had almost done to her. If Alice and Jasper had brought Nahuel around any later...he didn't even want to contemplate how much bloodshed there would have been. And even if, for some morbid reason (Nessie was her mother's daughter, after all, and Edward certainly couldn't think of anything more morbid than giving up one's mortality), she wanted to meet Jane, he wouldn't be less than three feet away from them.
As for the subject change, Edward narrowed his eyes slightly, his lips turning into a thin line. "I'd recommend you cover your tracks well...and I know full well that you won't listen to me even if I told you no." It made him sick, honestly, to have to condone the Volturi's behavior, even if it had been what he had done once. Even if he felt himself entirely justified, even if he chose which would die, and only chose the ones he deemed wicked...it was the worst thing he could possibly do. Yet here he was, letting her hunt in their land. Although, to be fair, he couldn't do very much to stop her...except maybe tip off Jacob...no, they'd know, and probably find some excuse to punish them for it.

Jane coacked her head to the side watching him carefully. She wasn't planning a fight no matter how much she was proking him hoping for one. She knew she couldn't kill him especially with no reasoning but having a little fun wouldn't hurt right. She wasn't going to let the Cullens get the best of the Volturi ever again. She knew her plan was full proof minus a few thing but there would be no destroying that wasn't what was important.
Jane smiled and nodded at the name. "Ah yes, Most sweet name I wonder if the childs grandfather ever gets to see her now." she said casually before turning her head away as if looking at something in the distance then back to Edward. "This town never changes does it." True Jane had never really been here and looked around to note the place especially when she was her to amialate the Cullen clan quite aehile ago. But she wasn't thick it was a small town thing rarely changed in small towns.
Jane smiled as he sort of seemed to agree to her hunting here but like her had any other choice. "You are so kind." she said her voice dripping with mock kindness. "I will wake care of my self no even you will know I was even hunting on your land...if I'm nice." she said a curved smile on her lips. She could make her kill invisibleand noone would know what happened but that would be no fun no fun at all especially if it was to tease the Cullens.

Edward gnashed his teeth again upon hearing more of her thoughts. It came as no surprise to him that she was, as was in her character, toying with him by letting her fantasies of torturing him run through her head for him to hear. No, it wasn't surprise that he was feeling, so much as it was hatred for the sadistic vampire child in front of him. Then there was the mention of how she'd make sure that the Cullens never "got the best" of the Volturi again...what on earth was she planning? Whatever it was, it could only lead to terrible things, something that would make the shaky direction that his life was going in become much like living through a perpetual earthquake. He was going to have to warn the family, make sure that they were at least aware of the possibility of another conflict.
Now things were just getting personal. There was no way that Jane could know of Charlie's condition, but it stung him just the same. He felt that his relationship with Chief Swan had improved in the past ten years, something he was rather proud of, especially now when he was beginning to see where Charlie was coming from in his apparent distaste for Edward. After all, he was sort of in a similar situation, even if he knew that Jacob was fine...he just wasn't good enough for Nessie, which Edward kept reminding him was what every father thought. That much he knew for sure. "Yes, he does..." he responded. Jane hardly needed to know about Charlie's stroke, and how it seemed like he wasn't going to make it. Just the thought of that made him feel slightly sick.
It was fortunate the the conversation took a turn away from things close to his heart, and he simply nodded. He realized the statement about how Forks never changed was generally rhetorical, but it was hard to not do that when he knew it far better than she did. Of course, the faces and names changed, but essentially, Forks was no different from the way it was when they first returned here. Even the changes that came with the 21st century were far more subtle than one would expect. He was pulled out of his thoughts of that by the voice that reminded him of poisoned sugar. For the first time, he attempted a sarcastic smile, which came out to look more like a grimace. He knew full well that she wouldn't make it subtle in the slightest. It was amazing how they could contradict themselves like that, but such was the price of having a vampiric royal family.
"That's nice to know," he responded in a soft voice, for anything louder would reveal his growing aggravation and hatred.
